Three sentence movie reviews: Love & Friendship

In All (-ish), Three Sentence Movie Reviews

Walt Stillman’s Damsels in Distress left me cold, so I was a little wary of this film.  But it turns out that he just needed the proper setting for the stodgy manners on display in Damsels.  This was a complex narrative carefully told and Lady Susan was delightful in her unabashed selfish villainy.

Cost: $10.85 (I know!  I just really wanted to see a movie, so I paid full price at Regal.  And bought popcorn.  And was reminded I don’t really like movie theater popcorn. Again.)
Where watched: Regal City Center Stadium 12.

I didn’t like this movie at all. 🙁 I was very excited to see it, too, so it was hugely disappointing. I thought Chloe Sevigny was completely miscast. Kate Beckinsale was great; I just hated her character. Oh, and the guy who played the total dumb ass (Tom Bennett I think) was great too. At least he made me laugh!

I think Lady Susan’s horribleness was what made me like this movie so much. It’s like Jane Austin just cut loose from her flawed-but-good characters and really let-r-rip with an awful woman. But I can see how if you weren’t into that, this wouldn’t be a fun movie. And Tom Bennett was hilarious. I enjoyed him also.
